Data Engineer
At Snowfall, we're on a mission to revolutionise the travel industry. As a global travel tech scale-up, we collaborate with industry leaders in aviation, marine, and ground transport to deliver innovative software solutions. We’re fast-paced, high-growth, and pride ourselves on an incredible culture that transcends to our employees all over the globe. We’ve built a world-class team, and to continue our success, we are looking for a talented Data Engineer to join us!
We are looking for a technically proficient Data Engineer with a programming background to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who can write code and is passionate about leveraging data to drive AI innovations. As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining scalable data pipelines, transforming high-volume transactional data into a clean, structured data lakehouse, and supporting AI integration efforts down the line. You will work closely with our engineering team to ensure our data infrastructure is robust, efficient, and ready for advanced analytics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Programming and Development: Must have experience in developing and working with Python
- Utilise your programming skills, particularly in Python, to develop, maintain, and optimise data pipelines. Your ability to write clean, efficient code will be crucial as you work on complex data transformation tasks.
- Must have experience with AWS Cloud to store, manage, and access their data efficiently
- Ability to independently lead the data engineering initiatives and work alongside the architect and the engineering team
- ETL and Data Pipelines: Design and implement ETL processes using tools like Apache Airflow to extract, transform, and load high-volume transactional data into a data lakehouse.
- Data Transformation: Apply your understanding of data fundamentals to clean and transform raw data, ensuring that it is accurate, consistent, and ready for analysis.
- Data Lakehouse Development: Convert large volumes of transactional data into a clear, structured data lakehouse, making it accessible and usable for our analytics and AI teams
- ElasticSearch and NoSQL Integration: Although traditional SQL databases are not a focus, experience with NoSQL databases like MongoDB and Cassandra is beneficial. Familiarity with search technologies like ElasticSearch is a plus
- Collaboration and Support: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software engineers, and business stakeholders, to support data-driven initiatives and ensure data quality.
- Documentation and Best Practices: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all data processes, ensuring best practices are followed and knowledge is shared across teams.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in data engineering, AI, and machine learning. Continuously seek ways to improve our data infrastructure.
Qualifications:
- Ideally a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
- Experience in data engineering, with a previous focus on programming and software development.
- Proficiency in Python and experience in writing production-level code.
- Experience with ETL tools and workflow orchestration platforms, such as Apache Airflow.
- Strong understanding of data fundamentals, with the ability to turn raw, unstructured data into clean, structured formats.
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases like MongoDB and Cassandra and search technologies like ElasticSearch would be a big bonus.
- Experience in building and maintaining data lakehouses and data warehouses.
- An interest and understanding of AI and machine learning pipelines, with the desire to integrate data engineering processes with AI initiatives.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
